Pearls and Pearls

Hmm. I'm a month behind on my posting for birthstone projects. I've down at the warehouse where we have had only one computer until recently. Yes, I managed to convince the boss that we needed another computer for the office. I don't want to make it a habit of using it for personal use, though. That is until it pays for itself! So the first five and a half hours of today I've slaving away at the website. (You would think that I would be done with that by now...there's always something to fix.)

I hesitated to start a new project just because June's birthstone is a pearl. But I did. In fact I started at least three new projects!

The first is a wallaby for a new baby. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish it before the month is over. Caelen was born earlier this month. I actually got to meet him when he was two days old. We were attending a shower for Cate and her mom when-surprise, surprise - in walks Chris and her THREE boys!

The second is a neck-down Aran sweater. I 've had this yarn for some time and have had many different ideas for it. Since I've been itching to do an Aran I thought this would be a good time as any.

And the third is really a "maybe" and will probably not get done. The magic raglan has been intriguing for a long time but I think I'll put it off for another month.

The Unfinished Wallaby for Kate (Now finished and delivered). The color is really off on this one. It really is a very pretty heathery purple. I wouldn't mind a sweater for myself out of it!

Burgundy and Emeralds

There are other things to do with yarn besides knit.

Kedge made me a Bible case a number of years ago that held up really well. Except for the handles, it's in very good shape. I had contemplated having her make me another until I remembered my burgundy yarn and the "blanket stitch". Worked well. You have my recommendation for repairing handles on a Bible Case.


You knew this was coming, didn't you? As you know the birthstone for May is emerald. There will be two of these and so far one is done. Guess. And they're not socks.

Aquamarine is for March

Aquamarine is such a pretty stone. It so much reminds me of the ocean and because of that, my childhood. The browny sand and the blue, blue sea. I've often lived by the ocean. Seven and a half years in Hawaii. Four years in Japan. Even when we lived in Maryland for a year and a half we took time to go to the ocean--Rahobath Beach, the Chesapeake Bay. While visiting Gramma in Pennsylvania on vacations I remember going to the Boardwalk by the Jersey shores. Perhaps these socks reflect those colors a little.



These socks are certainly ubiquitious! They have been with me since my very first post back in 2006.

There's a reason for that. Even though they look like they would be fun to knit, I'm not so smart to figure things out.
I've had a real bear of a time with these socks. I put them down for awhile and lost my way. I forgot what to do next. Then when I finally figured it out I realized I lost a stitch somewhere back about 20 rows. Have you ever "tinked" for 20 rows? Takes about two hours and makes your already bad eyes go "badder" (Thanks Jailgy, for that liberty!) Whew! I'm glad that's over. Now I'm on my way again and will try to finish these socks shortly...but not for March.

Garnets For January

I know. I barely made it. Today is the last day of January. And if it weren't for the fact that I have forced myself to post a birthstone colored project every month I wouldn't be here. But just for kicks here's the garnet baby sweater I've been working on since last summer. Just so you know (as if you couldn't tell!) my camera takes awful pictures of things red.
