I really, really, really like snow. For me, it's better than spending a week on the beach of Waikiki.
When we woke up yesterday morning there was at least 10 inches of snow on the roof ofTeegee's car. We live where 10cm (8 inches) was predicted but we got much more than that. It started to snow on Saturday afternoon at 2PM but it didn't look very promising; it was so faint But within 24 hours we were very well cover. We thought of attempting the drive in to meeting but decided against it. We may have made it there but it was still snowing pretty heavily and to get home may have been a problem. G and D stopped by on their way in and we made them coffee to have along with her cookies. (Sort of like a pit stop on the Pony Express.) They were debating on whether to go in or not and finally decided to go. LK went with them (carrying two blankets, just in case!) and called us on the road to let us know the roads were not as good as some had led them to believe. So we stayed home. It never let up.
Later that morning B and I both heard what we thought were the cats upstairs playing but knew it couldn't be so because they were both sleeping peacefully. We looked out the back window and noticed that the fence had been knocked down by a branch of the neighbor's huge tree. (I guess that tells you how rambunctious our cats are when they play!)
The afternoon meeting had been moved up a half hour and the gospel meeting cancelled. We were called and persuaded to go to the C house but there was no way B was going to drive! G offered to come and get us and SC brought us back(twice because B forgot his Biblecase). Was I glad I wasn't driving. There are some pretty crazy people with SUV's that think they are invinsible and thus drive like there is no tomorrow. We actually saw someone spin out just turning the corner. Others were barrelling down the road as if they were the only ones there. S tried to stay as far away from other cars as possible, especially those kinds.
My Wallaby models wearing the sweaters I made them.
When we went to bed it was still snowing! The power went off several times in the night and there were more strange sounds. I always get up when I am rudely awakened just to see what it is that's woken me up or maybe it's just a reaction to the sudden jolt. Poor B. I'm always leaping out of bed. This time it was another branch from the neighbor's tree! Hopefully, the tree stays standing and doesn't ever fall on our house. It's probably 100 feet tall.
The "kids" are flying in to Seattle tonight and we plan to go pick them up. From what I hear the border is horrendous. It took Char hours just to get through the Nexus Lane at Peace Arch yesterday afternoon. And that's the fast lane! Maybe we should leave now. Some kind soul left this link a while back for me to check the borders and to give me peace of mind. It will certainly come in handy today.
Teegee called last night at 10:00PM. He asked me if we were in bed yet. I asked him why he wasn't in bed yet. (It's one am in NJ.) "It's the last night of the conference," he said. Pat answer. They had just been at Chelly's house and just got back to the motel. I doubt any of the kids got much sleep while they were away. It's very hard for two of them to get up early in the first place and NJ is three hours ahead of us. I had wondered if they had made it to any 9AM meetings when their bodies said 6AM. Hmmm.

Luggage Tags
Look what I got in the mail the other day! You might think that it's insignificant for a birthday present but if you know what my suitcase looks like you would realize how valuable they are. Like every other bag in the terminal mine is black ...with wheels... and a pull handle. Sound like yours? Well, I'm sure it is. That is why one of these is going on every one of my bags. Already LK used one to go to Regina and was able to spot here bag immediatedly. No more masking tape or ribbon for us! We're going in style.
Not only are they good for bags they're also good as key tags! Yes, Teege and Lk left their cars with their keys in my hands. Since the keys are exactly the same it is very hard, if not impossible to tell them apart. Hence the luggage tags with convenient pockets for names.
Thanks Jaigy!

Thanksgiving Day Baby
By now The Brother has gotten his socks so here is a view of the (un)finished product. They are not warm because they are not wool. They are not soft but for someone with allergies there are concessions and compromises. They are a beautiful shade of blue.
Some consolation.

A Letter
Hi, Mom!
Send pics of the finished quilt. Better yet blog about it and post some pics! Ask SAJ to help you next time she's out. I'm sure she would be more than happy to help you out with the hitting of the wrong keys!
Keep on sending the recipes. I'm collecting them in a booklet and am brain-storming ideas about how to get them bound.
Things are not so hectic around here now that LK is working on the on-line catalogue instead of me. I just could not cram everything into every day that I wanted to get done. Things got half way done or not at all and I always felt like I was behind and always trying to catch up. Check out the web site now at this spot. It looks pretty good so far but has a long way to go.
LJ has an orthodontist appointment today. H needs to go shopping for the "snow weekend" in Regina. She, (H), Tom and Leanne are going. Lj is staying with the horse.
I started some socks for "the brother" and was excited about giving them to him. When joyous found out they were part wool she told me he was allergic to wool.
Next they were for Teegee until he tried them on. Now, I think I'll finished them for H and the Regina week-end. She always appreciates what I make her.
This will be her third pair of socks. If I do make some for Teegee I guess they will have to be black and exactly like every other pair in his drawer. And I hate to work with black yarn. I can't see the stitches very well.
Got to get back to work.
Lots of love,
Knitterykate

Mr. Owl, Part 2
I wanted to write about Mr. Owl earlier but every time I started to type, the picture disappeared. As if you cared. Well, anyway Mr. Owl lives near Gypsy's barn in Delta. He was actually visiting the winery during their open house.
I had been driving down the road after taking LJ to the barn and saw that there was an open house at the winery. Since it looked like a rustic old barn conducive to picture taking, I turned in. Was I ever glad I did.
A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning by myself.

Besides Mr. Owl there were old fashioned Collectors' cars, furry, fuzzy sheep, miniature ponies, spinning wheels complete with spinning ladies and their wonderful woolly yarn,
(I did get some! Great for making socks.) beehives and their by-products,and rainbow colored tractors,

What About Me?
Felix found this "spare" left-over ball of yarn in my bedroom stash. It's the leftovers from jailgy's b-day present. Any yarn left out is fair game for him.
(I have stash all over the house. Anywhere there is a spare cubby. I really do draw the line at the freezer though.) He actually grabbed this in his mouth and took off down the hall, down the stairs and into the kitchen. I guess he knows a good thing when he sees it.

Gone, But Not Forgotten
I've been to the airport in the rush hour traffic twice in the last 15 hours. Teege took off at 5:00 last nite and LK and H took off this AM for the same destination. The Regina YP are having a get together this week-end and the three of them were able to go. LJ opted to stay by the stuff. It's too much for her with school, horse and work to get to take off too many week-ends. It is so different without the kids around even though they all work and are usually out of the house (except H) all day. I'm thinking of doing a wholesale cleaning job of the house while they're gone. It will be a good time to do it because the twins, their brother and mom and dad are coming here on Saturday and need to use Teege's room. Also, Lk and H really, really cleaned their room this week and got rid of a lot of stuff which is sitting in bags outside MY bedroom. (Mom, can you get rid of this stuff for us, please?) Now we can actually see the floor! (I should get a picture, for sure). I can get to the rug and give it a good clean. The millions of pairs of shoes we have by the front door will find a home upstairs and will not be in the way for a least five days. The bags of garbage, yes, bag(s), will be shown the door. And the superfluous clothing that was padding the floor will be sent to the "Good Will". What a delicious feeling that will be to have a totally clean house. For five days anyway.
BTW Don't you keep a saddle in your living room?

A Sunday School Treat
A few weeks ago (earlier this summer!) we had our annual Sunday School Treat. This year was in a wonderful park right behind G and D's house. What a hidden secret! We just about had the park to ourselves for the whole time. No one seemed to know about it and that suited us fine. It's not often that you get a public park in the middle of the city all to yourselves.
Lots was happening that day.
An engagement was announced! We're so excited for R and C. They will be living here, I think. At least for the time being.
She's from Montreal but has been out here so much we claim her for our own. This month (!) they'll be married if all goes well. We couldn't be more pleased.
Lots of food, lots of games and two more babies to go. (At that time!)
