Moving Right Along

It's not as if I have nothing to say. Those of you who know me also know that I'm rarely without something to say - often saying too much. But since Ravelry was introduced to me I found it harder to post since all my knitting projects went there. If you haven't checked it out and you like to knit or crochet, it is definitely worth a look -- if only for all the free patterns and the beautiful projects some have come up with.

A very respectful horse. Or a gluttonous one. LJ taught Gypsy how to bow and Gyps gets a carrot when she does it correctly.

What's the Resemblance?

Here's an update on the bangs situation: They're not quite as long as I led you to believe by posting the picture of the horse yesterday. But almost. When she pushes them to the side you can see her eyes.

There are advertisements by Fido (a wireless phone company) and Fido that are being circulated here in BC that use pictures of dogs that bear a resemblance to people or the other way around, maybe. Not saying that the people look like dogs, mind you. Yet the hair and fur are often similar. The face shapes are often the same, too. You be the judge and let me know if you think Laura and the horse's hair is the same. That's all.

We had a Greek dinner for Laura's birthday yesterday. Gran came over for the evening and helped us to celebrate. The cheesecake was not Greek--her choice. We could have had baklava but that would have entailed a trip to Vancouver and that would have added another two hours (round trip) to my already very busy day. Now I remember why I don't cook a meal like this but five times a year. It takes a lot of time.

A Sunday School Treat

A recital of many, many verses. (The most I have ever heard any one recite!)
"Dorcas Had a Needle, David Had a Sling"
Bethany, Abby, Morgan, Tara, Josiah
"This Little Light of Mine"
Hannah, Melissa, and Chloe

Just a few pictures from our Sunday School Treat. As you can tell it's not only for the kids! I think the parents had fun too.

Knitting Swatches

When things get too hectic around here I pick up my knitting needles and just knit. Cast on any old number of stitches and knit til I develop a rhythm that relieves my tensions. Sometimes I'm so tense that my knitting gets tight and I have to concentrate on working a little looser. Usually, noticing the tight stitches is all it takes.
I got this yarn last spring at the open house at the winery. And I've been itchin' to knit with it ever since. It's a sturdy 100% wool, hand spun, hand dyed and 2 ply yarn called "Fundy Fog" that I thought would be too heavy to make socks.

But after knitting my swatch I think that's what it will be.

I took it to meeting last week to unwind the skein--it came in a hank. I had used some scissors to cut off the very sticky tag. Because meeting was starting soon I left my half done skein, the wound up ball and my scissors on the table knowing they would be there when I got back.

What I didn't know (and really should have remembered, being a mom) is that you don't leave scissors lying around where there are oodles of kids under the age of ten. Well, guess what happened? Yep, that's right. Those scissors proved to be too tempting for some little person and when I came back my yarn had been snipped right in between the skein and the ball! I did want the yarn cut in half eventually but not just yet.
Not until I had divided the yarn exactly in half and weighed each ball on a balance scale so that when I knit the socks I wouldn't knit too much on the first and not enough on the second. Oh, well, I can console myself with the thought that I do know how to add on in the middle of the row and not leave a hole where I switched yarns. And yes, the little one did confess (in a whisper), "I did it."

Don't Throw Them Away!

If you were here earlier and wondered what I was talking about, wonder no more. Blogger was having difficulty putting up posts and uploading pictures this morning. So when I wrote and rewrote and tried to post all that would show up was the title. Aw, well, I thought. I'll just leave it. When I finish you'll know what I was talking about. You see, Kedj has a pair of socks that are worn out in the heels. On her blog I told her that another pair was coming. Then this morning as I was rummaging through my stash I came across the left over yarn from the worn out pair. I think I can knit a patch and graft it in the spot where the hole is. So I don't want her to throw the old pair away!

I was at the Abbotsford airport tonight. Teege is on his way to Calgary to meet some of his buddies from Regina. They plan on going to Banff to go snowboarding for a couple of days. We had bought him a ticket for his birthday to go where ever he wanted (within reason, now come on!) He was planning on going to St. Thomas conference and already had his ticket, but the conference was cancelled. He still needed to use the ticket because the last time he was in Regina they lost his luggage and gave him $100 when they found it (if he would pick it up at the airport instead of them delivering it). The $100 had to be used within 3 months and that time was approaching fast. So he's off. It's still hard to see any of my kids go even if only for a short time. As I write--he just called from the Calgary airport--. He was airsick and is really hungry. Thanks for calling.

Gone, But Not Forgotten

I've been to the airport in the rush hour traffic twice in the last 15 hours. Teege took off at 5:00 last nite and LK and H took off this AM for the same destination. The Regina YP are having a get together this week-end and the three of them were able to go. LJ opted to stay by the stuff. It's too much for her with school, horse and work to get to take off too many week-ends. It is so different without the kids around even though they all work and are usually out of the house (except H) all day. I'm thinking of doing a wholesale cleaning job of the house while they're gone. It will be a good time to do it because the twins, their brother and mom and dad are coming here on Saturday and need to use Teege's room. Also, Lk and H really, really cleaned their room this week and got rid of a lot of stuff which is sitting in bags outside MY bedroom. (Mom, can you get rid of this stuff for us, please?) Now we can actually see the floor! (I should get a picture, for sure). I can get to the rug and give it a good clean. The millions of pairs of shoes we have by the front door will find a home upstairs and will not be in the way for a least five days. The bags of garbage, yes, bag(s), will be shown the door. And the superfluous clothing that was padding the floor will be sent to the "Good Will". What a delicious feeling that will be to have a totally clean house. For five days anyway.

BTW Don't you keep a saddle in your living room?
