My New Favorite! Salted Caramel Mocha No Whip With Foam

I tried this drink at Starbucks and knew I could make it at home for much cheaper.

Salted Caramel Mocha with ...celery salt?

What???

We had milk. We had chocolate sauce. We had caramel syrup. I made some turbonado sugar/sea salt mix and put it in an empty Starbucks "Hawaiian Sugar Sea Salt" Shaker - or so I thought. It turns out I had grabbed a bottle of celery salt and mixed it with the salt and the sugar. It really doesn't taste that bad but I think I'll be a little more careful next time.

When SAJ blogged about madelines a while back I had to google it to see what she was talking about. I still don't know what it was that she was referring to but I came across this. Now this is some kind of espresso stand! I could use one of these. Maybe I can get one of my four kids to convert their VW's into something like this.

One of the perks at our conference was the espresso bar (courtesy of Wayne). These young sisters willingly offered their time and energy to provide us with exactly the coffee drink that we wanted. They were able to make us hot espressos, vanilla lattes, iced mochas or anything in between. Now that it is all over they should be pros. They think they made about 900.

Gran and Starbucks

She's never been to Starbucks nor had one of their coffees in her life! And she's 87 years old. It's about time, we thought.

B took us there on the way home from visiting Aunt Ruth (who was in the hospital) last Lord's Day, since neither Gran nor I wanted the pizza he and LJ had. I wanted her to try the Cinnamon Dolce Latte. It's one of my favorites.

Her comment: "This is really good!"

I guess we'll be going there again. Later I found out that it kept her up part of the night.

BTW The owl eyes are because she fell and hit her head trying to lift Aunt Ruth off the floor where she slid getting out of bed.

What Life is Made of

The air conditioner in our van broke while we were on holidays (Brit Speak). No problem since it wasn't too hot on the Oregon Coast. We took it in to the dealership yesterday-on probably the hottest day on record in BC It was close to 40 degrees Celsius ( about 100 F for those of you who don't convert). When we went to pick it up we turned it on. No go. Arrgh!
B.C. rarely gets hot so heat is one thing we cannot tolerate. To console ourselves we went to Starbucks where things didn't go so well there either. They charged LK $1.50 too much. They ran out of cafe con leche mix and couldn't make the coffee I asked for. They almost gave me two oat fudge bars when I only ordered one. (!) Poor Felix had to stay home and sweat it out on the couch.

Well, I brought back the van this AM and walked home. And now they just called with an update. Which usually means more money. And it did! Another $105!!! But that's another looong story. Very frustrating, to say the least. Another test of Christian graces displayed!!

Thought I would give you an update on the latest Wallaby. I'm a little further along than this because while we were at Aunt Ruth and Gran's visiting I was able to knit up a storm. The arms are now attached and the shoulders are shaping up. That means there are few mistakes. Notice I did not say there were no mistakes! At least they are not glaring enough for me to frog.

Aunt Ruth is not doing too well. She went in for a CT scan yesterday to find out why her arm is paining her so much. No info yet.
