Jailgy's b-day

Happy Birthday to you, Jailgy! Here's a birthday bouquet for you from Save-On!

When we were turning four and five Mom had a double birthday for us because our birthdays are 15 days apart. I remember that we had a huge party with lots of guests. Some kids were there that I didn't even know. I suppose they were the kids of the friends of my parents. Who knows? But they sure weren't my friends.

To feed everyone Mom and Dad had removed a closet door to use for the table set up on the lanai (Hawaiian patio). Even though we sat eight every night for dinner our dining room table wasn't big enough. (Actually, there were only seven--Chuggy was born the next month. Umm. She did this when she was eight months along and had five kids nine and under? Miracle Mom) It was my biggest impression of that day. That and the fact that Kedj had to go to the hospital to get stitches in her arm because she hurt herself in the automatic window in the back of our station wagon. (Yes, this was in the olden days when there were still station wagons around that had the last seat facing backwards. We thought it was a blast to ride around town that way until we got sick one too many times.) Maybe that was on another day but I don't think so. Mom always seem to have something drastic happen on the days she was the busiest. I believe she was out buying birthday presents for us. Now that wouldn't be on the day of the party, would it? If I know my mom, I think it was. Maybe she should write a book.

I wish I had pictures of that day. If there are any around, and I don't think there are, they probably are in the format of slides. We had thousands of slides. Mom was the picture taker in the family, but I don't think she even thought about the camera that day!

One of my presents that year, if I remember correctly, was a "mink stole", "pearls" and high heels. My, wasn't I the lady. Too bad I can't stand high heels, don't wear fur, and never wear pearls.

Hey, thanks for the bouquet! I remember that day, too. Did we get matching cowgirl outfits, too, or was that the time we got the "walking" doll? Yes, my mail already came today, but I didn't get anything. Now, yesterday I did get a beautiful pair of socks that so match my afghan! I am always complaining of cold ankles, not anymore. Thanks so much!

Yes, that was a busy day. In the morning we went in to Honolulu to have Soup's head x-rayed prior to getting braces. Found out she had a tremendous overbite. Baabeeboeby had an orthodontis consultation at the same time. Dad had gone out to the Bible Bookstore to get some Bible Club Supplies for me. Yes, you did get handmade cowgirl outfits made out of leftover charcoal grey denim I had made slipcovers from. I used green binding around the bolero of Knittery's and red around Jailgy's. Also I went to the Kresge store and bought black hats for the cowgirls. To complete the outfit you got white camp shirts. (the ironing kind) Guess I didn't know any better, but Dad did take ironing out to a nice lady sometimes. Otherwise I kept dampened clothes in the freezer so they wouldn't mildew until I got them done.

I loved that outfit! Now that's something I remember playing in for hours. We were the best cowboys! We even had an "Indian" to hunt down. He was older but two cowboys to one indian is a distinct advantage. (And we had the guns.)

BTW Dad shut my arm in the tailgate. But, that was before Mom pulled my arm out of it's socket. Guess I was a brat.
