Pheasants, Peacocks and Sunny California

Ha! And you thought I was never coming back. Well, I told you it was a long winter. It's not over yet. Yesterday (or was it the day before?) we had some more flurries but they didn't stick.
On the way to work from downtown Bruce drove down our old street to bypass the train we didn't want to get stuck waiting for. Well. We drove by the house and I said, "They have peacocks!" When we lived there it was not unusual to see pheasants meandering down our 200 foot driveway so Bruce told me I must mean pheasants. "No, back up." And this is what we saw.

I remember it being unusually warm on this side of the house. That must be why he is here. On a sunny day in the middle of winter you could sit out here, close your eyes and dream you were in sunny southern California.
And guess what? We didn't miss waiting for the train.

We can't match the peacocks for size, but our canary is beautiful too. The Gooding girls gave us a CD especially for birds and he seems to like it and sings...all through our writing group this morning. The all caps on my blog today was an accident. Since my first blog went to never never land I'm being cautious.

If we had a farm, I would definitely want peacocks, they are such interesting birds! Instead we go to Hovander park in ferndale and check out the peacocks, peahens and babies there!

That's neat! Do you miss your old house? I enjoy driving by our old places (we have a few) for memories' sake. What a surprise to see peacocks!

Though I never would have thought, I actually got tired of peacocks at Dan's. so many, so loud, so early!

Yeah, and now there are only one or two (if any, actually) left on the ranch at all. Too many 'cool parties' that lead to 'target practice'. Eventually, you'd get used to the noise, and they were handy sentinels, but I will never - ever, miss the messes they left behind them. Still, with them gone it only makes the place seem even more sad and ghost town-like.
